CNL CHALK RIVER SITE VISIT CHECKLIST:

  • Wear flat-soled, closed-toe shoes and long pants. Government-issued photo identification is required.  A Passport is required for international visitors.
  • Advise of severe allergies, pregnancy or medical conditions / devices.
  • Advise of recent radiation therapies.
  • It is recommended that all cell phones and cameras be left in the vehicle unless required for work.
  • Food - including candy, gum, medicine and lozenges is not permitted in certain areas of the Laboratories. 
  • Lunch and refreshments are available on site. If you have dietary restrictions, please advise your tour facilitator well in advance. 
  • CNL is a non-smoking site.  Please smoke only in designated areas.

 

DIRECTIONS:
Directions from Ottawa (ETA 2-2.5 hrs):

  • Take Queensway WEST or follow the signs indicating Kanata/Arnprior/Pembroke.
  • Queensway WEST becomes Highway 17 WEST.  (Pass Arnprior, Renfrew, Pembroke, Petawawa).
  • When you reach the Village of Chalk River, turn right at the lights onto Plant Road.
  • Stay on Plant Road until you reach CNL’s Outer Gate.

Directions from North Bay (ETA 2-2.5 hrs):

  • Take Highway 17 EAST.  Pass the communities of Mattawa, Stonecliffe, Mackey, Rolphton, and Deep River.
  • When you reach the Village of Chalk River, turn left at the lights onto Plant Road.
  • Stay on Plant Road until you reach CNL’s Outer Gate.

 

ON ARRIVAL AT THE CHALK RIVER LABORATORIES VISITOR ENTRANCE:

  • As you approach, pull over to the right and follow the signs to Visitor Parking. Proceed inside the building and report to the Security Counter. 
  • If you are a Canadian citizen, you must present government-issued PHOTO identification (such as a driver’s licence, Passport, health card, etc.) to the Nuclear Security Officer. If you are an international visitor, you must present a valid Passport.
  • Vehicles and personal belongings such as purses, laptops, briefcases, etc. will be searched by Security Staff upon entry and exit of the site. Firearms, weapons, explosives, alcohol, cannabis, and illegal drugs are prohibited on CNL sites.
  • All employees, contractors, and visitors are required to be physically, physiologically, and psychologically capable of competently and safely performing their tasks. Report fitness for duty concerns immediately to your CNL sponsor.
  • Visitor badges must be worn on the trunk of your body, and visible, at all times.
  • Follow the instructions of your escorts or Security staff at all times.
  • If you are uncertain or have questions about safety at any point, please ask a CNL staff member.

Once access has been granted, you will merge back onto Plant Road and travel 7 km before reaching Chalk River Laboratories main site. Visitor’s parking is clearly marked and will be on the right hand side following marked signs. If Visitor’s parking is full, you may park in any other available parking that is not reserved. Walk to the Brockhouse Building (Bld 700) and await your CNL Sponsor in the reception area.
